MMRGlobal receives USPTO notice for expansion of online medical records
Dec 18, 2012 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) --
MMRGlobal, Inc., a provider of online products to manage medical records, has received a notice of allowance, from the US Patent and Trademark Office, or USPTO, which expands the company's method and system for providing online medical records.
In short, the most recent allowed application expands MMR's patent portfolio with additional claims directed toward a Web-based service to access and collect health records from different types of service providers, including, but not limited to, retail pharmacies as well as hospitals, providers and other healthcare professionals providing services over the Internet.
The health records, including prescriptions, may be collected from service providers using various types of messaging including email, facsimile, uploads, and voice. Moreover, there are additional claims in the newly allowed patent application related to collecting insurance information, calendaring, and other features, which are already provided by MMR's products and services.
The company's patents come in advance of the Stage 2 Meaningful Use requirement that patients have online access to their protected health information through a Personal Health Record or other form of patient portal by 2014.
