BRIEF: Seatbelt patrol nets 28 stops Friday

From 8 p.m. to midnight Friday, during the Garden City Police Department's Nighttime Seatbelt Enforcement Program in which officers enforce the Safety Belt Use and Child Passenger Safety Acts, officers made 28 traffic stops that resulted in 19 citations for seatbelt violations. In addition to the safety restraint citations, officers cited and released one individual for no proof of insurance and made the following arrests:
Alex Perez, 27, of Garden City, was arrested and lodged in the Finney County Jail on an allegation of second offense driving while suspended.
Octavio Silva, 18, of Garden City, was arrested and lodged in the Finney County Jail on an allegation of driving while suspended.
Alejandro Salazar, 28, of Garden City, was arrested and lodged in the Finney County Jail on allegations of fourth offense DUI, transportation of an open container and reckless driving.
Kenneth Savoy, 30, of Holcomb, was cited and released for drag racing, illegal tags and no proof of insurance.
The Garden City Police Department's cost to participate in this program is funded through a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation.
