She also participated in the pre-race athlete call-ups and rode in the official pace car at the beginning of the race, followed by an on-stage interview with the race announcer.

The surprise announcement was made just before the race began at a pre-race celebration at 10 Barrel Brewery. The recipient, along with her parents and siblings, are active cyclists and participated in the Downtown Boise Criterium.
