DataCore Software, the industry’s premier provider of storage virtualization software, announced that a premier German insurance company, Direct Line Versicherung AG, has implemented its business continuity and disaster recovery architecture on storage infrastructure built on the DataCore storage hypervisor SANsymphony-V foundation.

DataCore began in 1998 as one of the industry’s first storage virtualization software companies, and since that time, has established itself as a leader in optimizing storage infrastructures for server and desktop virtualization.

DataCore’s website says it focuses on the “Big Problem” plaguing virtualization projects today: the storage problem. “Traditional approaches to storage are not cost effective and they simply cannot deliver the performance, availability, and redundancy required to support the demanding requirements of server and desktop virtualization,” said their website.

DataCore says to prevent this problem they provide a software layer that endures over generations of hardware and enables customers to virtualize their entire storage infrastructure so they can repurpose it making it more efficient – providing greater performance, availability, and redundancy.

Merging with Direct Line Versicherung AG, DataCore will be able to offer customers a Direct Line to setup a backup and disaster recovery data center. This combination provides a flexible, high-performance and fail safe IT infrastructure that virtualizes storage hardware with SANsymphony-V and server hardware with VMware vSphere, a service that reduces cost with a self-managed virtual infrastructure, while vSphere accelerates the shift to cloud computing for existing datacenters, while also underpinning compatible public cloud offerings, paving the way for the only hybrid cloud model.

Heiko Teichmann, Managing Director at IT Service Provider, Teserco, and Project Manager on behalf of Direct Line Versicherung, said this addition has all of the benefits without any negatives. “DataCore SANsymphony-V provides Direct Line, a cost-effective and efficient business continuity solution supporting high-availability and disaster recovery across multiple sites, without neglecting performance or data protection aspects. The DataCore solution is a strategic component in our daily business,” said Teichmann.

Besides adding a new level of data protection and reliability, the new service, Direct Line, will benefit from an increased efficiency in productivity and flexibility during the year-end, peak business season, which adds an increased spike in business operations across both data centers.
