Today, Mitchell, a provider of technology, connectivity and information solutions to the property and casualty claims and collision repair industries, announced the commercial release of the latest version of its medical bill review and workflow solution for first- and third-party liability claims handlers, according to a company press release.

Decision Point 7.2 was developed and delivered using what the company calls agile development principles, emphasizing rapid time-to-market and client-driven feature development, according to the press release.

"DecisionPoint 7.2 represents a significant change in our development methodologies that will deliver better outcomes, by simplifying and accelerating medical bill claim handling,” said Dave Torrence, Executive VP and general manager of auto casualty solutions at Mitchell, in the press release. "I'm pleased with the valuable new functionality that has been added in this latest release, including the ability to integrate with Mitchell NHQ Negotiation Services, providing the extra benefit of access to negotiated out-of-network payment services."

Decision Point 7.2, developed with customer feedback, now includes the ability to work with pharmacy data using Web services, and allows them to use Medi-Span and Redbook, which provides information on the industry, as their drug pricing indices, as well as  pharmacy pricing in compliance with regulations rolled out for New York.

The company also reports in the press release that clients can use the Mitchell NHQ Negotiation Services component to find and use negotiation services on the approximately 50-70 percent of medical charges that are generated by providers who are not currently part of a provider network.

Mitchell officials also said in the press release that the company is expanding its portfolio to include Mitchell's exclusive automated medical bill review in Hawaii in conjunction with delivery of the Hawaii PIP Fee Schedule.

Stephanie K. Jones raises a very interesting point, with all the electronic devices now making it easier and more automatic to operate a car. Will driving someday become too safe to insure, she asks. She queries whether a future of increasing emphasis on safety in the automobile industry and among government entities will lead to a massive drop-off in auto insurance premiums for U.S. property/casualty insurance companies, quoting a recent industry study.

But a report from last year may give insurers more hope. Researcher Stacy Smith says there are now more uninsured drivers on the road. She adds that insurance rates will remain “cut-throat,” and discounts are now being given to safe drivers, with some companies even making their deductibles “invisible”.
