Insurance firm American International Group has announced that it will soon inaugurate its new technology center in Mecklenburg County, Charlotte and will add 230 jobs to give a major boost to the economy.
The New York-based company has announced its plans to put in more than $5.5 million into the operation, which is expected to be launched next year.
The center will be dedicated to deliver application development and management services, including the design, development, testing and deployment of software supporting various aspects of AIG’s global insurance business. The company has not yet disclosed the location of the center, which will provide application development and management services for AIG.
“We are looking forward to growing our capabilities in Charlotte,” says Robert Dickie, AIG’s chief operations and systems officer, in the release. “The combination of a highly skilled workforce and a focus on economic growth in North Carolina supports our goals of developing world-class IT products and services to support our business and our customers.”
AIG has also won new incentives for the project through the state's Job Development Investment Grant program. If the company meets up with the hiring and other investment-related projections, it could receive up to $4.9 million in total benefits over the 10-year span.
The project magnifies AIG's presence in Charlotte, where United Guaranty Corp., the company's mortgage insurance division, has offices. United Guaranty Corp. is headquartered in Greensboro.
Bob Morgan, president of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, said in a statement that AIG began a national search this year to find a location for the project.
AIG specializes in offering property casualty insurance, life insurance, retirement services and mortgage insurance to approximately 88 million customers in more than 130 countries. The company’s mortgage insurance division, United Guaranty Corp., is based in Greensboro, and its property and casualty insurance division has existing operations in Charlotte.
