Novatel and HIMEX Jointly Launch Innovative Usage Based Insurance Solutions

Novatel Wireless (News - Alert) Inc. recently announced that it will collaborate with HIMEX to launch innovative solutions in the Usage Based Insurance (UBI) category. This strategic collaboration will enable HIMEX to proactively integrate Novatel Wireless family of MT 3060 telematics devices into its range of products developed on HIMEX 3D World Platform to enable provision of telematics information in virtual renderings format.

In a release, Peter Leparulo, CEO at Novatel Wireless, said, “Launching a UBI product is a significant commitment for insurers. HIMEX provides a complete, end-to-end UBI solution to insurance companies with a platform that creates a high level of engagement by end users. We’re very pleased to be collaborating with HIMEX in this growing market.”

Novatel’s MT 3060 family of platforms is an ideally designed solution for after-market and commercial telematics markets. The self-installation feature can be easily inserted into a vehicle’s port for on-board diagnostics, following which the MT3060 supports all five currently applicable OBD-II protocols. Once configured, the device can automatically capture critical vehicle data and deliver such data to the cloud. The highly sensitive 3-axis accelerometer allows the MT3060 to detect driver behaviors such as the speed, location, driving style, braking patterns and other similar data required for UBI policy rating and other associated telematics services.
