National Storm Damage Center Signs Agreement with Global Risk Management Solutions

The National Storm Damage Center (NSDC) has signed a noteworthy agreement with Global Risk Management Solutions (GRMS), a leading provider of vendor screening solutions.

The National Storm Damage Center is a consumer advocacy organization that assists property owners before and after violent storms. It is constantly trying to improve the level of information it can provide consumers the best information available so unscrupulous people (aka “Storm Chasers”) do not take advantage of them.  

NSDC CEO Trevor Leeds in making the announcement of the agreement stated, “GRMS provides innovative vendor screening solutions that enables companies to reduce exposure to global business risk and liability.” He added, “As we grow the NSDC platform, it’s critical that we’re able to properly screen certified contractors in our network.”

The NSDC uses some interesting and leading-edge technology.  It has introduced a revolutionary forensic technology that detects the precise path, power and location of a storm in real time. However, as in most things in life, dealing with people and companies you can trust is paramount.  This is why shifting through the influx of building and roofing contractors around the globe who have contacted the NDSC and knowing who is reputable is a challenge. Leeds and NSDC Executive Director Dave Carlson explain that they, “only want to work with the best and most experienced certified and licensed contractors.”

When they learned about GRMS, “we knew we found the right partner,” Leeds says. “This provides an added layer for us to show that we’re using the best in the industry to screen and vet our contractors.” In today’s high-risk global business environment and turbulent economy, “it is more important than ever for a company to know the background and financial stability of the vendors with whom you conduct business,” Carlson says.

The management of the licensing, credentials and stability of vendors, as well as staying current with the myriad of ever changing U.S. federal compliance regulations “has become increasingly complex and costly,” Leeds says. “It is nearly impossible for any company to accurately and efficiently manage these issues internally in a cost effective manner.”

NSDC proactive and to the rescue

As noted, the NSDC is certainly technologically advanced. It has the ability to detect the exact location and intensity of a storm, whether it involves a tornado, hurricane, flash floods or a fierce baseball-size hail storm anywhere in the world. Needless-to-say this information is invaluable to contractors. The real value is in pairing property owners with contractors and public insurance adjusters. Obviously the vetting of those service providers is critical and that is where GRMS’ screening expertise comes into play.

The problem with platforms that exist today is that they do not feature useful and effective tools for information and resources for property owners before or following a disastrous storm. Homeowners and commercial property owners alike feel they are targets for being taken advantage of in general and also feel they traditionally have been underpaid on their insurance claims—or their claim has been unfairly denied all together by their insurance carrier.

“The NSDC brings a level of education, information and resources to a property owner after a storm and it connects them to licensed and certified contractors so they’re not being taken advantage of by storm chasers or an insurance carrier who attempts to reduce the amount of their claim or deny it altogether,” Leeds says.

Given the amount of time that has passed since Hurricane Sandy pummeled the Northeastern part of the U.S., as well as the number of complaints against shoddy or no workmanship and the time it has taken victims to be properly compensated for their losses, this new partnership should be a vehicle for providing something that is truly valuable: peace of mind.
