CellAntenna Launches New Cell Phone Detection Solution

A new cell phone detection solution has been launched by CellAntenna (News - Alert), experts in combating cell phone threats.

To prevent accidents caused by locomotive engineers, bus drivers and other heavy equipment operators making calls or sending text messages while on the job, the solution has been designed.

The CJAM Cell Phone (News - Alert) TrainAlert solution, to prevent major public transportation accidents and save lives, proactively alerts authorities or dispatchers when an operator is using a cell phone in time.

Dozens of deaths have been attributed to train engineers distracted by cell phone calls and texts, within the past three years.

Even for the bus drivers and heavy machinery operators, the threat of accident exists. The CJAM-TA solution corresponds to February's announcement by the National Transportation and Safety Board of its 2010 Federal Most Wanted List of Transportation Safety Improvements.

The list highlighted cell phone use by motor coach and bus drivers. However, proposals by the NTSB to install video cameras in trains fall short of fully addressing the issue.

Cell phones in use in unauthorized areas, such as a locomotive cab, are passively detected with CJAM-TA.  The central dispatch or security personnel get actively notified of the use of the cell phone.

In that case the train engineer can then be contacted immediately and the cell phone turned off. CJAM-TA can also be applied to bus drivers and heavy machinery operators.
