IBM CICS Transaction Server, which can be used in modern service oriented architecture (SOA) enterprise solutions, is increasingly being selected by customers due to its maturity and overall excellent performance characteristics.
Customers such as Renault, Crédit Agricole, and Vestigo have selected the 'reliability,' 'availability,' 'scalability' and 'security' of CICS Transaction Server running on the mainframe to deliver 'unparalleled' levels of service to their users, according to IBM (News - Alert) officials.
Moreover, these customers have continued their association with CICS by exposing existing CICS assets to a wider audience within their enterprises. Also, they have developed modern new applications that support the new wave of SOA as it becomes mainstream in business environments around the world, said company officials.
France based Renault, a vehicle manufacturer, has built a production management system based on IBM System z mainframe hardware and software technologies. The IT arm of Crédit Agricolem, a cooperative banking organization based in France, is CA (News - Alert)-SILCA, which supports various divisions within the organization. For one of the divisions, the common infrastructure for banking applications is based on three-tier approach. The Web servers and WebSphere Application Server platforms are UNIX-based. It uses WebSphere Application Server, Version 6.0.2 running on IBM System p servers. Croatia based Software development company Vestigo developed it Java based cash management and trading application, containing over 4000 Java programs running in CICS at one client. Company officials said that because its solutions are Java-based, Vestigo can run them either on WebSphere Application Server or directly on CICS.
The white paper, entitled 'System z Software Working in Harmony for the SOA Enterprise of Today and Tomorrow,' covers technical solution details for IBM customers who use CICS Transaction Server in different ways along with other key IBM middleware products, including IBM DB2, IBM IMS, IBM WebSphere Application Server and IBM WebSphere MQ. This white paper also discusses the reasons why these clients chose to extend or deploy new applications to the mainframe.
