Government Employees Insurance Company, known as GEICO, a leading private passenger auto insurer in the United States, is expanding its portfolio of insurance services by offering auto insurance apps for use on iPad mobile digital devices and mobile devices running the Android (News - Alert) operating system.

The company’s top-rated GEICO GloveBox app is now available as an Android application offering a number of new features.

“GEICO wants the best experience for our customers at all times,” Dave Weaver, manager of mobile applications, said. “Our mobile applications for iPad mobile digital devices and Android operating system were built with that in mind.”

The new app enables customers to pay auto insurance bill, access current insurance ID cards, record accident information, reach GEICO by phone for all insurance needs, and view a selection of GEICO videos posted on YouTube (News - Alert).

It also provides a split-screen display that allows easy access to the main menu and a social media in-app browser for GEICO’s social media pages. Leveraging iPad mobile digital device’s capabilities, GEICO GloveBox app features auto “how-to’s” with images.

The new condensed layout features Accident Helper and Bill Pay & ID Card(s).

“Instead of simply shrinking our existing website, we reinvented the interaction with our latest applications,” Steve Smith, assistant vice president of GEICO’s Internet business unit, said.

A member of the Berkshire Hathaway family of companies, GEICO provides auto insurance coverage for 9 million policyholders and insures more than 16 million vehicles.

GEICO recently announced rigorous recruiting plans to fill positions in sales, service and claims positions thanks to a steady increase in the number of drivers who switch to GEICO.

The company plans to hire more than 80 new associates in its Tucson, Ariz., office between now and the end of the year, according to company officials.
